(ITA) Le mie origini sono del sud Italia, vengo esattamente dalla Calabria. Questa regione è speciale per la sua posizione: puoi raggiungere il mare e la montagna in un batter d'occhio, passando da scenari salati e blu a paesaggi verdi e ombreggiati, cosi facilmente e velocemente da credere di viaggiare nel tempo.
Il primo anno in cui il mio ragazzo mi ha raggiunta in Calabria si è innamorato del mare, ma io volevo che vedesse anche le montagne e cosi, in una caldissima giornata, abbiamo deciso di fare una gita verso Serra San Bruno (Vibo Valentia).
Prettamente luogo di pellegrinaggi religiosi, Serra è famosa per la sua maggiore attrazione, la Chiesa di Santa Maria del Bosco, in cui San Bruno era solito pregare e costruita di fronte alla cripta in cui riposani resti del Santo.
Per raggiungere la Chiesa dovete percorrere una lunga scalinata...oppure prendere il sentiero alla sua sinistra (mi ringrazierete dopo!). Attorno all'edificio è un tripudio di sentieri da percorrere in mountain bike o a piedi, per respirare aria pulita e fresca. Vi è un piccolo ruscello e qualche fontana, collegate direttamente ad una sorgente di montagna.
In primavera ed estate c'è il boom di turisti e pellegrini: si possono comprare souvenirs al negozietto locale, lanciare una moneta nella fontana dove pregava San Bruno ed esprimere un desiderio, fare un picnic nei boschi oppure pranzare al ristorante vicino o prendere un caffé al piccolo bar.
Se avete raggiunto Serra San Bruno con la macchina potete usarla per dirigervi presso la Certosa di San Bruno, in cui vivono ancora i monaci Certosini. Per metà, l'edificio è stato adibito a museo, visitabile mentre si ascoltano i canti dei monaci tramite speakers.
E se alla fine del viaggio vi sentiste affamati, potete prendere la vostra auto e impostare il navigatore verso Spadola (Vibo Valentia) e prendere un tavolo al ristorante LA TAVERNA DEI BORBONI.
Noi siamo stati talmente fortunati da trovare porcini freschi nel menu. Ne abbiamo mangiato in ogni modo!

(EN) I am from South Italy, exactly from Calabria. This region is special for his position: you can reach the sea or the mountains in the blink of an eye, changing from salty and blue landscapes to green and dark ones, so easily and rapidly that you could feel like travelling you're through time.
The first year that my boyfriend came to visit me in South Italy he felt in love with the sea, but I wanted him to see also mountains. Weather was too hot to stay at the beach so we decided to go for a trip to Serra San Bruno (Vibo Valentia).
It is mostly a religious place: the main attraction is the Church where San Bruno used to pray and it is placed in front of the crypt where the body of San Bruno rests. It is destination for thousands of pilgrims each year.
To reach the Church you need to take a long staircase...or a shortcut placed on its left side (you can thank me after).
Around the building is full of trails where to climb with a mountain bike or just walking to breath in fresh and clean air.
There is a little river and few fountains directly connected to the mountain wellspring.
In spring and summer there is plenty of tourist and you can buy local souvenirs at the souvenir shop, you can throw a cent in the fountain where San Bruno used to pray on his knees and make a wish, or you can have a picnic into the woods. There is also a little restaurant and a bar.
If you went by car or with touristic groups you may reach the Chartreuse of San Bruno, in which still resides Carthusians Monks. Half of the building has been used as museum that you can visit while hearing the Monks praying.
If at the end of this trip you are feeling hungry, take you car and drive to Spadola (Vibo Valentia) and take a table at the restaurant TAVERNA DEI BORBONI.
We have been lucky enough to find fresh picked porcini mushrooms so we eat lot of them in every way: with fresh handmade pasta, with meat and raw with parmesan.
